Sunday Recap – January 8th, 2012

Contemporary Worship Services

Well, I’ve taken a break for the last few weeks from writing these Sunday Recaps, so it’s good to get back into the routine!  As much as I love Christmas music, I’m always happy to get back into the regular worship songs and get some new stuff going in January.  I was gone last week on vacation, so things felt normal today for the first time in a long while!  We started with “God Is With Us Now”, a nice up-beat opener from Gateway Worship that works well as a call to worship.  Our theme today was focused around worship, so our senior pastor asked me if I would share a few of my thoughts on worship in the service. I’ve never preached a full sermon before, and this was only a 5 minute talk, but there sure was a lot of extra stress for me today knowing I had to both lead the songs and speak!  I think it went fine, but I told the Sr. Pastor that if I had to speak this week, he had to sing a solo next week and preach! (He didn’t go for it…)

I followed up my talk on worship with introducing a new song – “Holy” by Matt Redman; it’s definitely one that I can see becoming a favorite anthem of our church! What a great song! Interesting piano part at the start – kind of tricky to sing and play, though! After the message before Communion we sang “In Christ Alone”, and during communion we used “Lead Me To The Cross” and “Nothing But The Blood”. You can watch the video of this service and see the Planning Center details.

Cafe Connection Service

Marv led the team in the Cafe service today, along a full team! Denise did a great job on the flute part today for “In Christ Alone”! I didn’t hear much of this service since I was leading in the Traditional, but thanks to the whole team for a great job! You can see the Planning Center details for this service.

Traditional Service

  • “O For A Thousand Tongues To Sing”
  • “Majesty”
  • “Our Great Savior”
  • “Alleluia”
  • “Before the Throne of God Above” (Charitie Lee Bancroft, Vicki Cook)
  • “Nothing But The Blood”

I know it’s not a new song, but this was the first time we’ve used “Before the Throne of God Above” in a service here. It worked well for Communion, one I’m sure we’ll use again.  You can see the Planning Center details for this service.
