Contemporary Services

Yes, it was a Chris Tomlin Christmas celebration! I’ve just found that the arrangements on his “Glory in the Highest” CD are some of the best contemporary arrangements of familiar Christmas carols for congregational use.  We had the Worship Choir singing this morning as well as the worship team, and Pastor Tim asked if we could prepare a couple of extra songs for this week. I said – sure! So, we started with Darlene Zschech’s “Hallelujah”, and older song, but still one of my favorites. We had just the choir/team sing this one more as a special, and it worked great for  a little slower, more reflective call to worship. Then we kicked it into high gear with Tomlin’s “Joy To The World (Unspeakable Joy)” and “Angels We Have Heard On High”.  One of my favorite new Christmas songs is “My Soul Magnifies the Lord”, also from Tomlin.  We used a click track from Praise Charts for that song, and also added the congregation this year as well. Then, during the offering, the choir/teams sang one more special – a brand new one for us this year  by Meredith Andrews called “He Has Come For Us (God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen), a terrific song that worked well with solo and choir.  After a message from Pastor Tim that touched on not missing Christmas because we’re too busy with Christmas, we ended with “Glory In The Highest”, a worship song of the angels.

It was a wonderful morning of praise, and I so appreciated everyone’s involvement this morning – they all did a super job!! You can see the Planning Center details and also watch the video of the service.

Cafe Connection Service

Zack led the team in the Cafe this morning, and the songs were the same as the Contemporary, minus the two specials.  The Cafe crew had a break last week with the Children’s Christmas musical taking the morning services.  It was nice to see it back in action today! You can see the Planning Center details for this service.

Traditional Service

  • “Angels from the Realms of Glory”
  • “O Little Town of Bethlehem”
  • “Hark the Herald Angels Sing”
  • “Angels We Have Heard on High”
  • “O Holy Night” (Special Music)
  • “Joy To The World”

This is the service where we sing all of our Christmas carols the “old-fashioned” way  – right from the hymnal with piano and organ. Nothing fancy, or new arrangements, but it’s great! Just singing out the carols as I learned them as a kid. Rick did a great job on “O Holy Night” to complete the service. You can watch the video of the service, and also see the Planning Center details.

This post is part of the Sunday Setlists blog at The Worship Community, where worship leaders share setlists and recaps from this weekend’s services. Hope you had a great morning yesterday, and have a very Merry Christmas!!
